On May 14, the Lincoln community once again showed what can happen when people come together to help their neighbors.
During the 3rd Annual KLKN Channel 8 Bike Donation Drive, community members donated an incredible 333 bicycles to Lincoln Bike Kitchen. Held at the KLKN Channel 8 studios, the event matched last year's total and provided a significant boost to our bicycle inventory as we work to meet growing community demand.
LBK is incredibly grateful to the team at KLKN Channel 8 for hosting this annual event and helping raise awareness about Lincoln Bike Kitchen's mission. Their partnership has helped connect hundreds of donated bicycles with children and adults who need reliable transportation.
Every bike donated represents an opportunity. Volunteers will inspect, repair, and refurbish these bicycles before they are matched with people in our community who are facing financial or situational hardship. For many recipients, a bicycle provides access to work, school, healthcare, grocery stores, and other essential destinations.
"Every bike donated is the beginning of a story," said Executive Director Shari Shanks. "We're grateful to KLKN and the hundreds of community members who helped make this year's drive such a success."
The need for bicycles continues to grow. In 2025, Lincoln Bike Kitchen distributed more than 2,200 bicycles to children and adults throughout our community—a 40% increase over the previous year. Donations like those received during the KLKN Bike Donation Drive help ensure that we can continue meeting that need.
Thank you to everyone who donated a bicycle, shared information about the event, volunteered their time, or supported this effort in any way. Together, you're helping transform donated bicycles into opportunities and keeping Lincoln rolling.
